Hi all-

I was just wondering if anyone know what the "fake" speaker grill in the rear of the tahoe is for? Its like right by the tire jack. Has anyone out there used this spot to put a sub in?

as long as the woofer was a 'freeair' style, I don't see a problem with it.

mine came with a speaker in there. Doesnt sound bad but there isnt alot of bass...thats for sure.

that grill is for an optional factory sub in the XL and suburban models. I cut mine out and had a fabric grill installed that matches the interior color. I then built a fiberglass box and mounted a 10" Rockford Fosgate sub in it along with a 1000 watt alpine amp. It's all hidden inside and dynamatted. The only thing I gave up was the location for the tire tools and the storage bin above is now useless...

Here are the pics. The sub is actually mounted where the storage bin used to be. Not where the actual speaker grille is. The amp is one of the new 1000w Alpines that are very compact and it is mounted behind the speaker grille. You can see in the last pic with the lower cover removed how the sub sits inside the panel. The blue light shining through the grille is actually the amp "power" light in the last pic.
