Retaining Steering wheel controls

The simple answer is that the plug referenced is one of the two that plug into the back of the OEM radio. You would only use this connector however if you DID NOT use an adapter that has a steering wheel control wire. Aside from the steering wheel adapter, most people also use a stereo adapter ( such as OS-3BOSE) to use an aftermarket radio with the factory RAP, On-Star and amplifier.

I did not use this brand when I installed my Kenwood in my 2008 Tahoe. I went with Peripheral, but all of them work about the same. I used the Peripheral PESWIAKJC steering wheel adapter along with their GMAHLANB interface to allow my headunit to interface with the factory amp/speakers, On-Star and to provide the accessory power (RAP).
