Problems with Keyless Programming

I have a 99 yukon and am having problems programming the new keyless pad. I used a jumper wire across the OBD2 connector and the locks cycle showing that it is in program mode, I then hold down the lock and unlock buttons but nothing happens even after a minute. Do all the doors need to be closed or ignition switch on or something or did I just get a bad remote? thanks for any help

You might either have a bad remote or the wrong remote. Where did you get it? What are the numbers on the back?

ok i got it to work.....I guess after the locks cycled the connection wasnt good enough. I just tried it again and held the jumper wire more securly in place and it worked....
