Parking light short

I have a 00 Denali. The 1st passenger side parking light (closest to the grille) seems to have a short in the socket. When I wiggle the ground (the wire that's off to the side) it gets brighter or stops working altogether. Do I need to replace the socket? If so, how do I get the wires out of the old one?
