factory wheels will be best for stuffing a bigger tire. but you will have to give up bad tread wear and a less comfortable ride. and the tires will look really tucked in.
the tire size you can fit will depend on the wheel you go with. the more narrow the wheel and the more positive the offset (higher # for backspacing) to a certain point you can fit a bigger tire..
now if you went aftermarket wheels in a 17, your probably looking at a 17x8.5 with a positive 14mm offset (5.25" of backspacing) and could safely run a 285 70 17 on that wheel with a leveling kit. may have to trim some slight plastic
a simple and nice setup would be some fuel hostages and nitto terra grapplers in the same sizes i just mentioned. exact specs for each are below:

obviously you can pick a different setup but the tire and wheel size i've picked are pretty spot on. although i like a little more wheel in my setups.
personally, i'd do a 20x10 and 295 55 20 trail grappler on a leveled setup. similar to this
the silverado in the background has 295s. tahoe is mine with a 6" on 20x12's and 305 55 20's.
