Are you guys buying the extended warranty?

I just used http://www.gmoutlet.com

Just paid $1685 for 72mo/100,000 Miles for a 2015 Tahoe I picked up this morning.

FYI - This plan is not a GMPP (which is the OLD GM plan owned and handled by Ally Bank)

This is a 100% GM Owned plan called "GM Extended Protection Plan - Platinum"

We haven't yet. We likely will purchase one in the future from the dealer that we bought the Tahoe from.

IMO an extended warranty plan is never worth it. Especially in the beginning. Your bumper to bumper and emissions should give you peace of mind till close to end of those. If you save money out of each check during that time you will have a nest egg saved for maintenance and repairs that will be better than the fine print coverage of the warranty plans.

It depends.... We got one when we bought our new Vette many years ago. One repair we had to have done (bad brake booster and contamination in the system) after the factory warranty had expired, covered more than the cost of the plan. Granted, it wasn't much more than the cost of the plan, but we did come out on the positive side.

I will also say that the GM plans cover a fairly wide range of stuff. Better than a lot of aftermarket plans. It is also real easy to file a claim under a GM plan, unlike some others.

In truth, it is crap shoot. Kind of like auto insurance. You pay for something you may never use. In essence, you're banking on something going wrong with your car after the factory warranty runs out. On some models, and in years past, maybe that wasn't as likely. With the complexities in most newer cars, that picture may be changing some... More can go wrong and repair bills are generally higher. It is an individual choice.

In our case, we bought one for the Vette for piece of mind and the knowledge that Vettes do have "quirks" that can pop up from time to time. The cost of the plan wasn't that much comparatively, so we took a chance.

That what insurance is. The insurance company knows the odds are "always" in their favor at the end of any policy. They win way more than they lose. Casinos stay in business the same way. Some that buy the extended warranties come out ahead but absolutely most of them do not. Saving during the period of coverage from the original purchase date is always a better way IMO. I work too hard for my money to spend it on the wrong odds in someone else's favor.

Warranty

I have a 2015 Tahoe. I was under the impression that first you have a 3 year bumper to bumper coverage, 2nd you have a 100,000 mile or 5 year coverage on the engine and drivetrain. That leaves 2 years of uncovered warranty on the accessories. I can't see paying $1,600 to cover the accessories for 2 years. Am I looking at this wrong?

Dealership started at $3400 for the warranty, then I walked smacked him back into reality and after 3 times of going back and forth, he gave in at offered it to me $1100 for 5yr/100,00.

How many miles did the 2015 Tahoe have when you purchased the warranty? The link you posted is to a dealership in PA. Is that where you bought the warranty or are you trying to advertise for them? Not trying to be rude just wondering. Thanks!

For a 50K+ rig, its not hard to justify buying one for piece of mind. Their longevity and durability speaks in contrary to purchasing a extended warranty.

I know the dealer I am buying my Tahoe from sells both the GMPP AND GMEPP plans and is alot cheaper than some others that post on various boards...I am going to wait until the end of my first year of ownership to get the warranty extension....cannot see paying for a 5 yr warranty when I am getting 3 included from factory...

Paid 1900 bucks for a 6 year 125K mile bumper to bumper warranty at the dealer for my 2016 Hoe..With all those electronics [and AFM issues that might come up but hopefully not as do not see as many failures as I used to] helps me sleep better at night.

No extended warranty

Folks,

I opted to not purchase an extended warranty on my new 2017 Tahoe.

I don't drive in enough miles to justify it...maybe 5000 / year.

Good luck to all!

$1685-100,000 mile is about what I paid for on my 2015 Tahoe. Plus It came with a 3 yr "wraparound Warranty. I had to use warranty 3 times
