At the present time I do not want to afford a in dash NAV / GPS system for my 07 Tahoe but am considering a portable such as a Garmin or Magellen type. Any suggestions on units to look at with a budget of around $500.00?

Garmin all the way! I have one and love it. Used it many times on road trips. It portable but you stick it to your windshield where it charges from the cig adapter. If you take it with you it will last for 2 hours on battery.

I have a factory Nav for sale for not much more than that. It is in the classified section. It will look a lot better IMAO.
