Don't know why, but it sounds like my compressor on '97 Tahoe is going out.

:cryin:

When I turn on the a.c. it makes a grinding sound, and the sound seems like it's

coming from underneath the passenger side of the vehicle. Any clues as to

what that might be ? '97 Tahoe LT with 73,000 miles on her.

Are you only listening from inside the vehicle, or are you also listening while standing in front of the vehicle with the hood open? Does listening while standing in front of the vehicle allow you to better locate the source of the noise?

Air conditioning unit

I was driving when I heard the noise. Like a real bad ratteling noise coming

from that box underneath the glove compartment unit. I know I sound kind

of vague about this, but I'm not the "mechanically" inclined sort of person.

Sorry, but that's about the jest of the problem. Any solutions, and/or ideas

as to the problem ? :Chevy:

The A/C compressor is under the hood on top of the engine. The blower fan ios inside. If you open your passenger door and look just under the glove box, the blower motor-fan is the round object just against the side of the cab in front of the door and under the dash. You can probably make the noise change by changing the speed of the blower. It may have some debris caught in the fan. Good news is the blower fan is a lot less expensive to work on than the compressor.
