It's a 4x4. To make it even more upsetting is that it had been upgraded to a detroit locker with 456 gears. I was not even aware of that having just purchased the vehicle last summer. Big $$ to fix it back the way it was. Seems the fluid slowly leaked out while it sat.
Not sure what...
Fingers crossed for ya'. But I had a '97 Tahoe that went to 235K before a u-joint cracked the tranny case. Never once did I have an issue with the rear end.
Really on a budget here. Wife already hates my toy. Any year make and model for GM trucks I should be looking for in the u-pull-it lot...
Took my '98 Yukon out for a little spin after she sat for a few months. All of a sudden..POW!! Looks like I'll be needing a new rear end. Maybe it's time for that 14 bolt I've wanted.
Any help with where or what to look for? Thinking u-pull-it.
Anyone know if this encoder is the problem in my case... '98 Yukon w/ buttons on dash to engage 4x4. The 2HI is lit currently as it should be. However when I try to go into 4x4 and press 4HI... Nothing happens. 4LO and nothing happens either. And if so how easy is the encoder to install? See...
You don't need to remove the dash to gain access to the resistor. You will need to drop the glove box however. You will see some wires going to it and it's near the blower motor. Relatively easy fix. Couple screws and your done.
On a scale from 1-5 where would you rate the level of experience one needs to install one of these kits? With 1 being a novice with only basic screw driver and plier experience and 5 being a certified mechanic.
Got an older Rough County 6" lift on my '98 Yukon that I am considering replacing. Reading, I have learned that many here prefer the ProComp kits but they only go to 6" and I am looking for a little more. Was referred to Whiplash Suspensions and found that they have an 8" kit that would fit the...
Seems the wipers in my '98 Yukon have a mind of their own. They work at times and other times not. When not working there is a buzz sound from the control box on the drivers side firewall. Sometimes I can wiggle the wires on the plug that goes into that box and they will work but other times...
Probably your resistor. Had the same issue in my '97. Replaced the in-dash control unit to no avail then replaced the resistor which solved the issue. Sold the spare control unit on eBay once all was up and running. Good luck.
Yukalade, your right about a damaged housing or other part. That is why I'm replacing the seal once more just to be sure because replacing the housing is quite a big job and I figured that if it does need replacing that I might as well upgrade the whole rear end while I'm at it.
