The method of rule we use at the shop is if its not broken dont fix it. But if you are having problems liek slippin or what not and are goin to need a rebuild it wouldnt hurt to try new fluid and see if it helps the problem, the worst that could happen is you would still new a rebuild.... Hmm...

Tow im not sure of but i would try changing the fuel filter if that doesnt help u may need to change the fuel filter that is attached to the fuel pump.... the p0171 is most likely could be caused by the after market filter and i doubt it is causing this problem....

Hey so heres my 96 2dr Tahoe just got the moldings takin off and the bottom painted black. Im putting the new tahoe badges on it tomorrow. Ok to start synchronizers are only in manual trans so i doubt that could even considered the probelm. I work at a transmission shop and from it sounds like your trans is slippin. The first check i would look at making sure your fluid is full (the most common and simple fix) also as stated above...

If the car still shifts ok when this happens the problem will most likely but in the dash if not check your speedo and wiring
