I was wondering how do I go about resetting the ECM, will the reset also clear all the trouble codes temporarily. I am installing the speed sensor and want to reset the ecm prior installing and testing the new sensor. Thanks for the help.

I located the VSS sensor, it is on the back end of the tranny right when it bolts the drive shaft. Grab an adjustible wrench and replace it. I had to special order the sensor today, $84 and it takes a week. We will see if that fixes the problem. If not, maybe dealer can put it on the machine.

I have several part numbers that all go to a VSS for the Tahoe. I believe mine is bad, which one do I need to get. also where does it go, i.e transfer case or abs module. thanks. ok so here goes, GM VSS PART #'s 15546837 8673299 24203876 15547452

Did this problem also affect your tach and mph gauges? Mine go in and out all the time, and when they're out is when the tranny lacks power to the wheels. Also GM Parts direct has the sensor for $90, FYI. GM List is $153

I think I may have found an answer to my issue, I thought my tranny would only stay in 4th gear, but maybe it is 3rd like you said with fuse #20 maybe needs replaced. Do you know where that booger is located? Thanks!

I certaintly agree with you both, autozone scanners are very limited in what they read. I guess I will have to take it to a mechanic, probably the only mechanic I trust specializes in AC repair, but I'm sure he knows more than just that. Thanks again for the info gentlemen.

ok it is now intermittent again, the speedo and rpm has started working but I still have a significant loss of power at the pedal. If I take the truck and have it scanned, is this going to scan like the OBD type scanner through the computer? Don't they have those scanners at advanced auto zone...

Yes the hum is proabaly a bad rear end. I would have that redone or get a remanufactured rear end, I had the same problem with a ford rear end, broke the drive shaft at the yoke, replaced the driveshaft but the rear end was shot.

My appologies, but when I bought my tahoe I had the same problem and even got a hard brake because the system did not have a drop of brake fluid in it. I bought a big bottle of advanced brake fluid DOT and pumped the brakes, added more fluid and pumped the brakes, they work fine now. I am sure...

Just curious, how does the ignition have to do with the tach and speedo going out or quitting and the power of the motor? It is intermittent as well. The truck starts and idles great, its just the initial power to the wheels that it is lacking and seems to be losing when the tachs go haywire.

I too have a similar problem. My rpm and mph gauges will go out when driving and the accelerating feels very sluggish. But when the rpm and mph gauges are working, it runs as it should, very powerful good accelaration.
