ok. today i was takeing my yukon in and was told by the dealer that the remote system was out and i just need to tell the service guy i want it, they install it and were cool. i asked him to conferm that for me and he printed this letter out for me. anyway take it in for service today to have stuff done and have the remote installed, but the service guy has no freakin idea what im talking about, so i go to the back to the accessory guy and tells me its not out and gm stopped production of it and it will never be out, but why did all the east coast dealers get the letter below which he received from Gm last month.

i tell the service guy to talk to my dealer, and he said he will call me later.

so whats the offical word, anybody know????

I REALLY WANT THIS FREAKIN REMOTE ITS SO DANG COOL

Subject: Bulletin ACC08-020 - New Accessory! Dealer-Installed 2-Way Advanced Remote Start
Message #: VSE20080443

DESCRIPTION:
Introducing the innovative 2-Way Advanced Remote Start. Now available for select GM vehicles (see below for detailed vehicle application information). The 2-Way Advanced Remote Start allows customers to upgrade their factory keyless entry or factory remote start systems to provide enhanced functionality. In addition to extended range remote keyless entry*, extended range remote vehicle start, and standard functions like door lock/unlock, vehicle locator/panic alarm and power liftgate open/close (if vehicle is equipped), this new accessory also features technology that allows 2-way communication between the key fob transmitter and the vehicle.

The key fob transmitter provides immediate visual and audio confirmation that a key fob command (like start vehicle, lock/unlock doors, etc.) was received. The large, easy-to-read LCD screen displays status/data when within range of the vehicle such as Fuel Level, Tire Pressure, Odometer Reading (accurate within 1 mile), Clock/Remote Start Countdown Timer, and Key Fob Battery Life Indicator. Customers with vehicles equipped with steering wheel controls (UK3) can even scroll through their pre-set radio stations.**

* Up to three times as far as factory remote keyless entry
** excludes HHR and G6

Immediately for all vehicles listed below except HHR. The 2-Way Advanced Remote Start for HHR will be available shortly.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Fits specific makes/models (see below for details).

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Antenna location varies by vehicle make/model.
Key fob can be programmed to control a second vehicle if that vehicle is also equipped with 2-Way Advanced Remote Start.
If reprogrammed, factory key fobs remain operational (except HHR & G6; 2-Way Advanced Remote Start kits for these vehicles include one new factory-style key fob to replace the factory fob).
To preserve battery life of the 2-Way Advanced Remote Start key fob transmitter, the image on the screen remains illuminated for approximately 5 seconds. To recall image to the screen, simply press any button once. To illuminate backlighting, press one of the side buttons once.
Important Installation Information:
• Estimated installation time: 1.1 – 2.3 hours, depending on vehicle
• Installation instructions available via Service Information (SI) website
• Requires service programming and scan tool
• Adhesion promoters are not included in kits. Order GM part number 12378555 for glass surfaces on '08 HHR and all full-size SUVs, or
12378462 for all other surfaces on all other vehicles.
• G6 requires a small piece of felt/flocking tape which is not currently included in the kit. Call 1-800-654-6333 to order BSR part number KT13296.
GM Accessories permanently installed at the time of new-vehicle delivery are covered under the New-Vehicle Limited Warranty. If installed after delivery, coverage (parts and labor) is for the balance of the New-Vehicle Limited Warranty, but not less than 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever comes first). GM Accessories not requiring installation or purchased over the counter carry a 12 month limited warranty (parts only).
This product is also covered under GM Protection Plan (GMPP) Major Guard and Smart Protection vehicle service contracts. Please refer to the current GMPP administrative guide for coverage details.
If you have additional questions, please contact your District Parts Manager (DPM) or Regional Division Marketing Manager-Accessories (RDMM-A).

Your second guy is misinformed or full of it.

It is FINALLY out, at least as far as being ordered (doesn't mean they'll have it in 5 minutes, but can be ordered), and that letter gives the correct part numbers, etc. Some of the vehicles require additional parts as well, such as different antennas to go along with them.

So, it's available, but probably so many dealers and so many people have heard of the constant delays, they're skeptical.

hmm. service guy called and said 357 dollars for the remote system and another 150 to program, i said WHAT, then asked it that was one or two fobs, he said two, i said on only need one. he said the price is still the same. then i told him that GM only told me it was supposed to be 250 (for some reason if you dont have the power lift gate its 250, but if you do its 150, i guess because you need more buttons) he said from Gm, this one is made by clifford. i said i have a part number. and he said O YEA, i forgot about that one, yup its 250 and it will be here in 5 to 7 days, so i told him to order it.

which makes me wonder if they were trying to make me spend more money, as well as make their job easier by just going aftermarket route.

so the remote is ordered and sometime next week i will get it in and take the kon in to have it installed. OYEA IM EXCITED...

just hope programing is not 300 bucks.

gm said expect 1.6 hours of labor.

Your best bet is to give them your VIN number. When I called that was the best way to make sure I was getting the right part number for my unit.

Yes, that appears to be the correct one, with Remote Start but no Power Liftgate.

I'd be a little worried with that dealer being so woefully misinformed about such things, even when there's part numbers, and then saying "Oh, from Clifford...", but if they got the right number, at least they SHOULD have the right item.

Just comes down to actually installing it correctly, as some do need more than just programming, with different module antennas and such (for the increased range, etc.). Hopefully their install is a bit better than their knowledge beforehand.

what does it control? Remote start, power liftgate and lift glass? Does it control everything the factory fob does?

yup and then some. still have the panic button (well not a big red button, but you push both side buttons at once).

does everything the OEM fob does but gives you a read out. remote start range is like 50 fold, plus it lets me know if it was sucessful and how much time until it shuts off.

lock and unlock are the same except there is a little cartoon vehicle with doors and it lets you know if their all unlocked or just the driver door, as well as if its locked with the alarm, or just locked.

i can switch through the advanced controls and can change the radio station through my favorites (only if radio is on) check the Od, then the time, then fuel level, then check the tire pressures for each tire.

its geeky i know, but i think its SOOOOO cool. :D

Was wonder does your orginal remotes still work AND how does it work with the memory package? How do you set up which memory setting it will respond to 1 or 2 ?

Did you find out what they had to take apart on your Tahoe to install it?

Planning on getting mine in next week for install:D

i dont have memory seats so im not sure. but the two Stock ones still work as well as the two way, i had an extra key made so now i have three sets.

they had to go under the dash, then run an external antenna along the left rear. looks like an old tv antenna, not too obtrusive, but you see it when the interior lights are on at night. other than that im not sure, WORKS FANTASTIC.

sure thing. i will go get one now, but since its dark it may not come out, if it doesn't i will post a day time one tommarrow. i would tell your dealer to make sure its behind the third row. any other place would be VERY obtrusive.

its about 10" long with a wire going out the bottom. hang on!
