My 97 Tahoe (5.7) started to overheat. Upon inspection the 3/4" heater core hose at the firewall had a loose clamp and was the source of the leak. I tightened it up, it stopped the leak and off I went (mistake #1).

My issue turned out to be a straight up leak/loss of fluid. I was surprised it was as sensitive as it is but it saved me from damaging the engine.
As of today I am driving the same truck with the same engine just + about 20,000 miles.
