So now that the motor is in I am just working out a few little problems. First were just leaky hoses to tighten. Now the real problem I have is the acceleration/idle. When I go to accelerate off the line there is a lot of sluggishness through to about 15mph then accelerates like normal. When I...
hnt - have you checked the timing? I have had trouble with the distributor shifting (because the hold down screw is in such an awkward place it is tough to get it tight enough I guess) when it shifts too far starting is hard and may explain sluggish acceleration...
The fitting is apparently called a quick disconnect which is neither quick to connect or disconnect. Same thing is used on the oil cooler lines. Two little plastic ends you have to squeeze together and the hose comes out (hopefully). The actual fitting runs about 10 bucks.
Any trick to getting this thing threaded? It is corroded and won't thread; working at it just crumbles more threading on the pipe fitting. Is it possible to replace this end fitting perhaps with something more corrosion resistant?
So I decided I just had to have a load leveler to get this done. 40 Bucks at Harbor Freight did the trick. I got it back enough to throw on a couple bellhousing bolts and pull the trans and motor together then lifting it over the motor mounts wasn't too complicated well on to more problems!
So I managed to get the thing out and am installing a new motor but cant seem to get it back in. First the inspection cover couldn't be removed because the exhaust and the 4wd axle caged it in so it wouldnt come out until the motor did. I finally just decided to leave it out and pull the exhaust...
I am unfortunately having to replace the motor on my truck and I have a question that seems silly in my head but I can't figure it out.
I was thinking the easiest way to get the crank pulley off would be to do it while the motor is in the car with the transmission engaged. I selected 1 or 2...
I just attempted to run a compression check since the plugs are out. As soon as any plug is back in the starter drags a little. Two cylinders checked - 95PSI and 90 PSI (though I wonder if part of it is the starter isn't cranking fast enough even with only this minor load.)
So I pulled the spark plugs out and the starter now stays cranking (Should I hear the flywheel "whering" as it spins?
Does this mean there is some sort of valve problem if the compression is keeping it from cranking?
I replaced the battery first since it needed one anyways then checked voltage to the starter which was good so I figured it might be the starter so that is replaced. Still nothing. It just dawned on me that maybe it is related to the oil pressure being maxed out when starting as I now see that...
So still no fix. I think it is hard to turn over by hand must be so hard the starter binds up. It turns it slow for a second then after a second or so it slowly cranks just a little and gives up again. This is all I can get it to do. Is there a way to find out for sure that it isn't the bearings...
