Try using Nero. Select Burn to DVD, load the AVI files and click Burn. It's that easy.

For the in-dash, I'd look at Kenwood's. They're pretty nice and the new ones all have Garmin navigation in them too.

Sounds like you have a short in the wire somewhere....
