I have this same problem in mine and the problem is variable. I have been told by a mechanic that this is normal in these trucks. Not sure I believe it, but I now turn my stereo up to compensate for the noise.
OK, here is one for you. I have an occasional running problem on my 02 5.3 Yukon 85k miles. The problem only occurs about half the time and I can't figure out what it is. Here is the best way I can explain it.
Most of the time ( a little over half) the Yukon runs great. smooth idle...
I just jumped on the bandwagon and changed mine. WOW. Amazing what type of junk these things collect. Pretty easy and cheap. Took 20 minutes, would have been less time, but the last bolt was tough to get back in.
I have heard some great things about this company. I personally don't have a tune, but plan on getting one early next year. A friend used them (one man operation?), and said it was one of the best performance upgrades he has done. http://www.wait4meperformance.com/Index.swf
Also check the fuel pressure regulator. They are famous for starting problems like yours. It sits on the drivers side near the fuel rail. There is small black hose that attaches to it. Pull it off and smell it. If you smelll gas, then the regulator is bad.
Just hit 85k on my 02 Yukon SLT. I have had it since 67k miles and have only put back brakes on it. I plan on tuning it up here shortly, but she runs like new. Wouldn't have anything else.
I wonder if Mobile 1 will help with the constant knock noted in this thread? Either way, I am thinking about switching mine to Mobile 1 in the future because at 85k, I have now developed Piston Slap.
