    ask them what the vacuum readings were. average should be 18-21"hg. if its lower than normal then you might have an issue with vacuum but higher could lead to valves or such. and that shop that told you cats wear out? and to put straight pipe?... they are a joke, I would stay clear from that...

    cam or crank sensor. I would replace both to be on the safe side. you can have pressure at the rail but normally when either one of those sensors goes bad it shuts off the injectors so your going to get a no start condition

    WAIT! here is an easy test to do before you start tearing everything down. if you have a compatable scanner or digital multimeter you should check the o2 sensors. watch the fuel trim and the o2 sensor could be biased. see if the signal voltage crosses 450mv and if the primary hangs out too long...

    01 tahoe won't start

    sounds like a crank or cam sensor. check for codes. even if the light isn't on there might be pending codes. if the crank sensor goes bad then some vehicle will shut off injectors. that's part of the primary ignition.
