Well chances are is that one wore out and being that the liftgate is pretty heavy 1 good one isn't enough to hold it up. But its best to replace the both of them

Sounds possibly like the body control module, also might want to check the ground wire behind the cylinder head on passenger side grad a hold of it right there where bolted to the head and wiggle it if it breaks off that there could very well be the problem

The pcm is under your hood below the battery, not under the battery but towards the front center below the battery

The onstar module should be behind ip and to the right of the glove compartment
