Are these trucks ticking financial bombs?

I guess that's to be expected for joining a forum of 'truck guys'. Hasta...

Are these trucks ticking financial bombs?

LOL, was this good advice? You had a improperly secured door fly off at 65 and say it wasn't a problem because nobody got hurt? The same argument could be used to defend a winning game of russian roulette. Do you now secure garage doors the same way you did when it blew off using the same...

Are these trucks ticking financial bombs?

Engineers pick apart solutions to identify the best one. If I lived in AZ, I wouldn't be concerned with rust but I live in WI where our roads are salted for 4 months of the year. Can you post a link to the replacement cable you found for $20?

Are these trucks ticking financial bombs?

I didn't come here to compare vehicles but since we are: My BMW is a low mileage toy but with some track time. It's biggest cost has been 4 sets of tires and 2 batteries in 35k miles with no mechanical failures. I know some 2.5/2.8 had a plastic water pump impeller that caused...

Are these trucks ticking financial bombs?

I'd be willing to bet most owners don't have a clue that there spare could fall off at any time. I'll drive w/o a spare until I find a solution that is safe. I was just wondering if there was a known existing solution so I wouldn't go reinvent the wheel. I did find lots of similar...

Are these trucks ticking financial bombs?

My Lexus SUV has the spare in a steel pan below the floor at the same location where GM hangs theirs with a thread. My BMW doesn't have a spare, no room for it but they give you lifetime roadside assistance when you buy it.

Are these trucks ticking financial bombs?

yes, the idea I'm working on would involve 4 eyebolts and a long cable crisscrossing the spare. I can use the hitch bolts for two of them but the other two will probably have to be welded on. If the spare falls it can't touch the ground at all or I'd probably send my own vehicle in to a wreck.

Are these trucks ticking financial bombs?

Yep, we looked for that. No signs of any such attempt. It would be difficult to reach the part that broke with any tool because the plate and rim block access to it. It broke about 1/2 inch from the end, inside the spring. The spring itself looks rusty, no signs of cutting. I wonder how...

Are these trucks ticking financial bombs?

That's exactly what I said to myself. Heard a bang and looked in the mirror to see what I might have hit, saw the tire and said, there's no way I didn't see that before hitting it. It had to be mine.

Are these trucks ticking financial bombs?

"I don't think I'd be worried about my truck becoming a ticking financial bomb after having one part fail. I've never heard of it happening before. There was probably a defect or unnoticed damage in your cable. Just replace it, or go without a spare." Ah, a true gambler. With cell phones...

Are these trucks ticking financial bombs?

I just had the spare tire cable snap on my 01 Denali and drop the spare without any warning. Thank god this happened in a parking lot and not on the highway. I've never used my spare, there was never any damage to the hoist mechanism. Apparently the cable just gave in due to rust and...
