this may be to late, but i would say most of the time it is the intake gasket. this is a known problem. i have replaced a lot of these and fixed the problem. just make sure if you buy the gasket set its the updated gasket kit. about a $60 dollar fix.

Check your belt and front end, make sure ball joint and front end are tight and check the brakes. Most tire shop will check that stuff for free, I know les schwab does that's if you even live by one since there are only in the north west.

you have more tire options if you go with 265/70R17 which gives you better pricing and your able to get 10 ply tires also.

Just to give you a heads up shocks will not change the ride height unless they are air shocks. If your Tahoe is that low i would think you have drop spindles in the front and lowering springs in the rear. And you will need new shocks also if you raise it back up.

I would say no, but i am not sure. what i do know is H&R has different listing on those model years. but if you have the springs already try it doesn't take very long to swap rear springs.

you have to get rear springs and adjustment rods. H&R makes 2 kits 50721 3in drop and 50715 2in drop

just a little FYI: If you get torsion bars keys i would put front shocks on as well. Every set of torsion bar keys i have installed have striped out and oe shocks blow out from over extending. raising torsion bars doesn't change the ride quality its still the same pressure, do not max t-bars out...
