    Correct, the USB will only work to play the iPod, to use your vehicle as speakers for your iPhone (like for Pandora radio, etc) you'd need to use the 3.5mm jack on the faceplate of your radio head unit.

    253k on the 2000 Z71 Tahoe and its still running strong, though I am currently in the process of trading it off for a bit newer one..
