Stepper motor for sure.... my speedo went out like that. GMgaugerepair up in Wisconsin did every gauge on my whole cluster for $110 including shipping. I sent them out on a Monday from around Chicago and they sent them back out the same day they arrived, back in my truck on Thursday.

I had a heck of a time getting the diode leads to contact the relay pins and not block up the hole ( stopping the relay from going back in to it's home)..... but once I got it to work... IT WORKS. Took 10 minutes and $1.50 for a 2-pack of diodes, no climbing under the dash or cutting wires and...
