There are only two pins that the gate pivots on , check them for straightness, something might have got wedged while closing and tweaked the pins or the hinge mount. Also check the mount to see if a weld broke loose.

My 95 5.7 Tahoe has 440,000 mi. on it and coming back from Ca, I noticed the #2 cylinder was noisy so I adjusted all the lifters #2 was incredibly loose. Checked the stud to see if it might have loosened but it didn't. Did a compression test and it only had 25lbs. So if it is a bent or burnt...

Hope you chased it down, Not sure what type of fuel system you have but on my 95 5.7 w/tbi ,I was having the same problem. I could squirt some gas down the barrel and it would start and run , turn it off and nothing, found out it was the throttle body position sensor was bad. Best of Luck!
