    Which Tires?

You don't state what kind of driving you want to do, where, or what model your Tahoe is. Assuming it's a Tahoe. You should give info like this: My Tahoe is a 2003 Z-71. It lives in SW Iowa. In summer, it pulls a boat on the highway. Otherwise, it's driven on the road mostly when the roads...

FREE Online Repair Guides; How-To's; Wiring Diagrams

Not sure where to post this, so everybody will see it. I have a potential sticky candidate here! I just discovered that AutoZone has FREE on-line Repair Guides with step-by-step instructions, pictures, and full wiring diagrams, for thousands of vehicles. I checked. It's about as complete a...

    Tachometer sticks/reads high

Can tach be replaced? My '03 Tahoe's tachometer many times will not drop to zero when turning on the key and starting. Whatever point it is stuck at on start-up will be the "zero" point. So if the tach needle drops to 2500 rpm at start-up, it will read 2500 rpm high when running. It used to...

Spongy Brakes after hubs/pads Replacement - No air in system!

Apparently Donut Slayer is correct. Except that mine never threw a code. Just acted badly. Anyway, I got it fixed.:waytogo: First, another thorough bleed of the system actually made it worse. I replaced the master cylinder, which got it back where it was before the bleed. I wasn't too bummed...

Spongy Brakes after hubs/pads Replacement - No air in system!

Finally was able to get back to it. Guess what. No hydroboost on my Tahoe. The only hose running to it is the vacuum line from the manifold, and the two brake lines that run to the ABS unit. My son-in-law will be visiting soon. We'll bleed it to death....

Spongy Brakes after hubs/pads Replacement - No air in system!

Really??? I'll check it out. Time to buy the official GM manual for this puppy! I normally do for all my vehicles, anyway.

Spongy Brakes after hubs/pads Replacement - No air in system!

Oh, no... These hubs were bad, Bad, BAD! Definitely the cause of the ABS sensor code.

Spongy Brakes after hubs/pads Replacement - No air in system!

2003 Z-71 (LTZ) Tahoe I recently replaced both front hubs, with new ABS sensors. I did this because the ABS light had come on, caused by the front sensors' not being able to read the rotors. Clearance on the sensors had increased due to hub bearing wear. (Funny, the hubs never made any sound...

    Mirror glass sources?

My Tahoe has the power-folding, heated, dimming, turn-signal mirrors. The passenger-side mirror got cracked somehow, which isn't a big deal, except that the heating element quit working at the same time. Where are good sources to get a replacement heat/dim/turn mirror glass? And now that I...

    Upgrade them PATHETIC Fog Lights?

I'm sorry. When a guy makes a promise, he should keep it. :o They work GREAT! Acutally, the factory lamps are quite well-designed. They throw a beam with a wide spread, and a solid "horizon cutoff" at the top. Almost no light projected up, when properly aimed. All they need is decent bulbs...

    Upgrade them PATHETIC Fog Lights?

FOUND IT !!! I can tell just in the daylight, while aiming the lamps, that these are a MAJOR upgrade over the stock 27.5 watt bulbs. They actually look like real, usable fog lights now. We'll see how they work once the sun goes down.

    Upgrade them PATHETIC Fog Lights?

FOUND IT !!! I was looking for a replacement tail lamp bulb the other day, perusing the bulb section of my local Advance Auto Parts, and what did I see? A new bulb on the shelf. Sylvania #885. Exact replacement for the stock #880 bulbs. 50 watts. I'm installing them today. I'll...

    Tech: Quad beam headlight mod

No. In the second sentence I say, "I think this should work for 2003 and newer models."

    Raising Tow Capacity

We're thinking about doing the same thing. Mine is an '03 Z-71. I'm not concerned about increasing the towing rating. I'm just wondering about others' experiences with travel trailers. The style we really want (fewer beds, with a "sitting room" with two easy chairs in the very back end)...

Shoulder belt locks for no reason

You're right about the general way old-style locks work. The way mechanical seat belt locks work isn't a "one-way" pendulum, though. It's a pendulum that hangs straight down normally, then any force in any direction will make it swing to set the lock. This system can't work if the mechanism is...

Shoulder belt locks for no reason

In our Tahoe, the front passenger's shoulder belt will lock for no reason. The passenger suddenly finds herself pinned to the seat. Can't lean forward at all. The only "fix" is to unbuckle the seat belt, let it reel back in, then put it on again. Then it's fine.... for a while. This does not...

How many miles on 1 tank?

My "Range" output on the dash, added to the trip odometer, consistently adds up to 430 miles. From fill to when the fuel light comes on, I get right around 400 miles on a tank. MPG averages just over 16, mostly Interstate highway driving at 65-70 mph. If we drive only on our 2-lane highways...

How Tow\Haul Mode Works, Trans not shifting

There is a problem with 5 and 6 speed automatics-- More gears = more parts. Not just more gear sets. More servos and valves and solenoids and a whole bunch more stuff to go wrong. Not to mention vastly increased production costs that get passed on to the buyer. If the engine has a strong...

    Flex-Fuel Tuner Options?

I've contacted JennaBear about having him tune my Tahoe. And I'm considering buying my own EFILive or HPTuners (but man are they expensive! :eek2:). I wrote to SuperChips about their "Mileage XS" product, and here's the response I got-- "We do not tune for E-85 flex-fuel and/or hydrogen...
