96 heater core hot all the time

The water valve is closed when vacuum is applied by the solenoid. Feel the bottom of the valve - the spring loaded plunger goes up into the valve when it’ is closed. There is a small (maybe 1/8) vacuum line that connects the water valve to the solenoid. A second hard-tube vacuum line...

    simple a/c question

It does not, the next body style has them. There is a metal screen on the downstream side of the evaporator core, but it’’s only accessible by pulling the box. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    1999 tahoe steering loose

The ratios are the same unless you order a quick ratio box. Mine bolted right up, no issues. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    1999 tahoe steering loose

The original EVO pumps (even with the bypass kit) have the line running under the pump to the front. I’ am not sure how the 96 was done. I believe the 88-95 pumps are not interchangeable with the 96...something to do with the mounting bracket on the TBI. I’’ would definitely swap...

    1999 tahoe steering loose

What is different about the pump line routing? I have not tried adjusting a box before, I hear that it is a stop gap measure that may make things worse. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    1999 tahoe steering loose

Has the steering gear on the other (better handling) 99 been replaced? Pull the collar back where the steering shaft connects to compare the connection. A 96 and under style will have a visible snap-ring... The 97 and up style will not... More information on it...

    1999 tahoe steering loose

If it is suddenly getting loose and then returning to normal (like hitting a patch of ice on the road) then that’s usually the EVO sensor on the steering column under the dash. You could change to a 96 pump, but need to swap the hoses as well. Alternately, they sell a bypass kit that...

Buy or Pass? Chevy Tahoe 2 door 4x4 - $7000

It looks reasonable, the price isn’t bad if the photos are an indication of the condition. Ask when the intake manifold gaskets were replaced. That would be the main maintenance item that I would be interested in. It would show up as a coolant leak, usually down the back of the block but...

Put the multimeter from that red wire to the blower ground wire. If it has voltage, the ground is good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Pull the connectors at the relay and resistor, check for voltage on the relay orange wire or the blue, tan or yellow on the resistor connector. Check with the blower on. You should be seeing 12V on the orange relay wire with the blower on high, the same for the resistor connector (except the...

    1997 Tahoe

The high speed goes through a relay mounted near the resistor. Check for voltage with it on high at the orange wire connector pin( circuit 52). If there is voltage there but not downstream on the purple wire, then I would suspect a bad relay. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Stepper Motor Part #

It looks like you’d need this... https://digital-dash-solutions.com/product/f-95-96-97-98-gm-truck-speedometer-cluster-fuel-gauge-air-core-stepper-motor/ There are letters on the motor that correspond to fuel, temp, volt and oil. And in this thread, they talk about a resistor that you...

Help Request: Rough Idle, low mpg

The VCM is reporting the misfires based on the CKP and CMP sensor readings, so I’d say that if it’s not reporting a misfire then it’s not seeing a misfire. Your idle speed looks comparable to the scanner reading that I saw on my 98 the other day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Help Request: Rough Idle, low mpg

Here is the spec on the idle, GM gives the value with the transmission in drive. What is the scanner showing for coolant temperature (as reported by the ECT sensor)? I’m not sure what thermostat you have, but would expect it to report around 190-ish when warmed up. Sent from my...

Help Request: Rough Idle, low mpg

Yes, it can detect a misfire but not throw a code for that cylinder until a list of requirements are met. What size tires are you running vs what is on the door jamb label? 11-mpg isn’t bad around town, but wanted to see if you had non-stock tire size and had corrected the odometer reading...

Help Request: Rough Idle, low mpg

Is the belt still squealing? They sure went through a lot of them after the power steering pump was replaced. If it’s still loud, check the pulley on the pump, the shaft should be flush with the pulley flange. One thing to check would be a vacuum leak at the upper manifold and injector...

    97 repair manual

Try this link, I don’t see a 97 but 98 is there. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=700011 Alldatadiy.com is very similar to the service manual, if not a copy of it. Their subscriptions are around $30/year and well worth it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
