I've replaced the one with the ball inside to the fixed orifice style on my 2001 Suburban, 2002 Tahoe and a friends 2000 Sierra, 2002 Escalade and 2004 Suburban.

While standing in front of the Tahoe, its on the right/top/back of the engine. If I remember correctly, you have to remove the plastic engine cover.

Aftermarket is the only option. No possibility of putting an OEM one from a newer model on it either. Just stick with a brand name unit. I've had goot luck with DEI (Clifford, Avatal, Viper, Python), Crimestopper and Compustar.

I got quite a bit more than a 1-2mpg increase. With mostly freeway driving, I average 22-23mpg in my Suburban. I got slightly better last summer on a drive from the San Francisco bay area to Disneyland and back. No why couldnt GM program that into these vehicles???
