anti-clunk spring

Transmission has down shifted with a "clunk" on three occasions this week. There is now a "rattle" every time that I accelerate from a stop. The rattle is present through 1st gear and in reverse. Friend said that I had a broken "anti-clunk spring", and that is was pretty much a trans tear down...
