You would never realize how many slight inclines there are between central arkansas to southern illinois till you have a fuel pump going out on a saturday night before easter on the way to mothers house. Looking back on things, I had thought about changing the pump weeks ago when I noticed it's pitch to be a bit higher and louder than usual. Anyway, as I hit Blythville AR at about 70mph I stepped down on the pedal to get around a big rig and got a bog down instead. Since I had just gassed up, hoped maybe just a little water contamination but knew better as I could now hear the fuel pump screaming for help from inside the truck. With no chance of finding a mechanic on at this time of the holiday weekend I pressed on. She did an even 65 on the straight and level but often the speed bled down to about 45 on slight inclines. This went on for 180 miles and by golly she got me there, a little worn out from worry but home.
I replaced the filter and pump on sunday before dinner and all is great now. One odd thing is the filter, it rattles like the inside had broken and the filter assembly moved around freely. Odd?
