Palomar Truck Trail?

im thinking about doing a quick ride on the Palomar Truck Trail saturday. has anyone done this? i looks like there are a few ways to get on the the trail. I was thinking about going the 76, getting off on to gomez trail and following it up to the truck trail. The other way which is further from me is off the 79. any real difference? also do i need a permit of some type? i read the federal forest website, but im dumb and maybe it didnt say if i actually needed it or not.

where are you located? this sounds familiar to me, never been to that trail but im down to try it out with you. unfortunately mine is 2wd but i can try to go as far as i can lol
