COMPATIBILITY

AMSOIL Signature Series 100% Full Synthetic 5W-30 Motor Oil (ASL) is compatible with other conventional and synthetic motor oils. Mixing AMSOIL motor oils with other oils, however, will shorten the oil’s life expectancy and reduce the performance benefits. AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where oils have been mixed. Aftermarket oil additives are not recommended for use with AMSOIL synthetic motor oils.


SERVICE LIFE

AMSOIL Signature Series 100% Full Synthetic 5W-30 Motor Oil (ASL) is recommended for extended drain intervals in unmodified(1), mechanically sound(2) gasoline-fueled vehicles as follows:

• Normal Service(3) – Up to 25,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.
• Severe Service(4) – Up to 15,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.
• In all non-gasoline-fueled vehicle applications, extend the oil change interval according to oil analysis or follow the OEM* drain interval.
*OEM – Original Equipment Manufacturer

(1) Engines operating under modified conditions (non-stock) are excluded from extended drain recommendations. Examples include the use of performance computer chips; non-OEM approved exhaust, fuel or air induction systems; and the use of fuels other than those recommended for normal operation by the manufacturer.

(2) Mechanically sound engines are in good working condition and do not, for example, leak or consume excessive amounts of oil, are not worn out, do not overheat, do not leak antifreeze and have properly working emissions control systems. AMSOIL recommends repairing malfunctioning engines prior to the installation of AMSOIL synthetic oils.

(3) Personal vehicles frequently traveling greater than 10 miles (16 km) at a time and not operating under severe service.

(4) Turbo/supercharged engines, commercial or fleet vehicles, excessive idling, vehicles with more than 100,000 miles without prior continuous use of AMSOIL motor oil, daily short-trip driving less than 10 miles (16 km), frequent towing, plowing, hauling or dusty condition driving.
AMSOIL Ea® Full-Flow Oil Filters are designed for extended change intervals. They stop smaller particles, flow more oil and last longer than regular filters. For best performance, use AMSOIL Ea Full-Flow Oil Filters.

I read your post and I went to the AMSOIL website. I'm interested, but I'd like to have your input. I have a 05 Tahoe that just clicked over 100k. I bought it at 60k, and I don't know what was used prior to my ownership. I've never used AMSOIL before. I'm interested in the SAE 5W-30 Signature Series Synthetic, but I saw a blurb about engines with over 100k that had never used AMSOIL before. So, would the 25,000 mile interval not work for this engine because it's over the 100k mark? I've always been a religious 3,000 mile guy, but I would be interested to try it. So, no oil or filter change for 25k- or do you change the filter more frequently?

Good evening,

The general rule of thumb for 100K+ engines is if they are in good running order with no visible signs of leaks then you will be fine. The main issue with engines with over 100K is the risk of leaking.

The 25K mile change intervals are achievable with higher mileage engine. For those serious about running the longer intervals, when changing over, to eliminate the "guess-work", I recommend that when they order their oil and filter they also order an used oil analysis test kit. and take a sample of the oil when you would normally change it. The kit linked above if postage prepaid and is simple to use and inexpensive. When you submit the sample, it will tell you about all the contaminants in the oil as well as the oil viscosity and total base number (TBN). The TBN and viscosity are what make sure the oil in lubricating and protecting the engine like it should. TBN and viscosity stability has the most to do with the ability of the oil last for the longer intervals.

The analysis report will also show the levels of wear metals and additive materials. This information can clue you in if there is something going on inside the engine that could lead to a problem. For example, a report that shows high levels of potassium will point to coolant contamination. While a report that shows high levels of copper and aluminum could mean that the engine could have excessive wear to the bearings, cam, etc.

AMSOIL not only offers great oils that are warranted to last as long as they advertise, they also offer ways for the end consumer to make the change in such a way as not to have to trust them on blind faith.
