So I went to change the filter in the hoe Sat night and found my handy GM fuel filter tool (metal scissor looking one) wouldn't do the trick. I look it up in GMSI (GM Service information) and find reference to tool J46363. Advance and Autzone don't carry or list any alternatives to this tool so I bought a generic plastic disconnect kit and no dice. I can't get the damn filter off. Anyone have ideas or suggestions?

BTW I can't stand GM's crappy fuel filter designs:cuss:

Sure looks like the one! Thanks

I tried the plastic generic one I bought and it didn't seem to have enough force to free the clip.

Well the old scissor type fuel filter tool didn't work,

So I just bought the Lisle 35000 (the one in the pic in my previous post) off Amazon today.

Hopefully I'll have it by the weekend so I can get the damn filter changed!

Anyways, keep me posted... i am interested in knowing how nasty your fuel filter was and how much time you spend doing this. Good luck

The only thing I have going for me is that this is the first GM car I've had where the stupid nut on the fuel line wasn't rusted solid to the point of immobility.

Yes, seems our fuel filter has an odd sized clip. The scissor tool will work with some persuasion.

It's a major pain even with the right tool. acccess to the filter isn't bad at all. It's those gay clips they have holding it on. It took me about 10 minutes of screwing with that tool to get it off. My truck only had 50K and the fuel on the inlet side of the filter was black. there's a pic in another post of mine.

saw that pic, i was curious to see another one to compare too... how many of those clips are there? how long did you had to fiddle-f*ck around with each one to get undone?

We use an air saw to cut the pipe off then use the tool to remove it from the line.

I'm not sure how the fitting works. The tool is designed to push up into the housing that contains the clips/connector. It should disengage it so you can pull them apart but it's easier said than done. At least the tool is made of metal and doesn't break from all the fiddle f*cking around! I don't know where the dirty fuel came from but I can tell you that I used Sams club gas almost every fill up until now. Not saying it's the culprit but it is a suspect.

just use some needle nose pliers near the top of the connector. Press in on tabs and pull the line off. I used these to remove fuel lines when replacing fuel pump with no problem.

You have to unload the connector by pushing the fuel line into the filter, then press in the tool, then pull on the fuel line. At least that's how it usually goes. You think that is hard, mine is in the tank.

Yea, and you get to replace that if and when your pump goes out. Pray you dont have a full tank when that happens, lol.
