I have a 96 Yukon 5.7 litre. Ever since i've changed the fuel pump i've had a drop in my range. I've lost close to 150 km on a full tank. I've replace cap, rotor, plugs, air filter, fuel filter, O2 sensors and had the fuel injectors cleaned. I did a fuel pressure test on it and it reads 64 with key on motor off. With motor on it reads 54. Both are withing specs according to the manual. After i turn off the motor the pressure steadily drops over five minutes by about 14 psi. This is outside the normal specs. The book sais I have a leak some where. There is no fuel dripping anywhere. The return line isn't kinked. So i'm figuring maybe it's a bad regulator? Anyone know how this part swaps out? Is it a staright forward job? Any tips would be appreciated. With the price of gas it would be nice to get my range back. Thanks

Have a 97 5.7 vortec and recently upgraded my fuel injectors which had the fuel regulator attached to it. In order to get to the regulator and injectors i had to remove the upper intake manifold. I can say that i avg'd 15.5 mpg on a recent trip from FL to MS(627 miles each way). Bought the truck with 187k miles on it about 3 monthes ago and at that time i changed the plugs, wire, cap, rotor, fuel filter and injectors

Telmd that sounds like better mileage than i'm getting. How dificult was it to remove the upper intake? Was it straight forward to remove and install new injectors and spider body? I'm going to start mine this weekened. My mileage has really sucked after replacing the fuel pump. Figuring on a leaking feul regulator.

It was pretty straight forward. I found a tech write-up online on removing the upper intake. and have it on my laptop at home. If you need i can email to you. Took about 2 hours from start to finish. I upgraded from the oem cpi spider to the mfi(multiport) and it was pretty much old one out new one in.

Hey Telmd that would be great. You can send it to [email protected].
What is this upgrade you refer too? I was going to open it up and see if anything is leaking but it there is a better thing I can put i there i'm all for it. Where did you get your parts? I'm up here in Canada but i'm sure I can get parts from most anywhere. I'd rather not go to a dealership though as they are the priciest. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the info Whippled2dr. I see in the pic it only has 6 injectors. I guess that's just a pic to see what it's like but the one I get will have 8? Does it just bolt right on in place of the other metering body? The fuel lines bolt onto this item? I'm looking for a straighforward repair as my truck is getting on in age and I'm not sure how much longer i'm planning on keeping a truck of this size. Thanks for your help.

Yea it looks like they just use the pic for the v6 version. The description says its for the 5.0L and 5.7L v8s. This is a straight forward swap. Pull out the old one and throw in the new one. Good luck.

MFI Upgrade

Hey Whippled2dr. Thanks for all your help. I checked around on line and found the right three parts I need to install this upgraded injector. Unfortunately GM parts doesn't accept Canadian credit cards or ships to Canada. I've been looking for two days now to find some place that will ship this to Canada and no luck. Would you know of any other places that may carry this item? I've tried Jegs, Summit, JCwhittney and a pile of parts places. The dealership up here wants over 1100 for the three parts and Gm parts only wants 330.00. If I don't find anything on line I guess i'm going for a little drive. Thanks
