Multec upgrade

Finished my upgrade to MFI from the crappy SCPI today. Very easy job. Took about 3 hours. When i removed the upper intake the back half was clean and the front was carbonized. I guess that is where all my mileage has been going. Cleaned up the intake and installed the new injector and metering body and it fired right up. The annoying engine vibration is gone and it revs up real smooth. I'll post back when i take it for a nice long trip to see if I've gotten my full tank range back to around 750 kms. Hopefuly! The whole unit with gaskets and mount cost 540 canadian from Texas. I'll try and post pics later on.

I believe SCPI is Sequential Central Port Injection and MPI is Multiport injection. Tahoes from 96 to 00, i think, came with scpi which has all the injectors in one fuel metering body. As they squirt fuel it's carried to each cylinder along plastic tubes with poppet style valves on the end. These poppets tend to get stuck with carbon and cause hesitation and misfires. GM put out an upgrade that put the injectors at the end of the plastic tubes now right into each cylinger. Do a search on line for Multec and you'll see pics.

ahhhh, I see. Ok sorry to ask that question.

When is GM just going to put turbo on everything..sheesh. :)

Im glad the performance changed for the better, you had narrowed that problem down really well.

The only thing i've managed to narrow down is my wallet. First the pump, then the connector, then the second pump, 3 fuel filters, cap and rotor and wires, then professional fuel inj cleaning, air filter, plugs and then the multec. Not much left at this point. Now if only the body would stop rusting this thing should last another 10 years.
