Unlocking DVD
I bought the Lockpick unit from the web site mentioned above. I finally got it installed. There doesn't seem to be a lot of support from the vendor - either via e-mail or the phone. The video on their web site shows that you only need to remove (and replace) one connector from the back of the radio. I guess if you want to use only the feature that allows you to view DVDs from the front nav screen that is correct. However, if you want to "unlock" the nav system so you can pick an address from the Address Book (as well as perform other functions that are blocked when moving) you need to remove and replace two connectors from the back of the radio - one is black, the other brown. The written directions are not real clear on this. Also, in their installation video they show "mounting" the Lockpick box in a cutout behind the radio. Due to the number of cables that go to the radio, HVAC controls and the lighter plugs I was unable to mount it there. This is not to say that it can't be made to fit if you want to spend enough time doing it. I mounted mine above the radio under the dash vents. There is a piece of plastic that hangs down that you need to get the unit behind but it fits well there. The hardest part of the entire installation other than determining that I needed to use both sets of cables rather than just the one shown in their video was getting the trim plate off from around the radio. There are nine spring clips that you need to deal with without bending the trim. Once installed it works as advertised and I now have a switched 12volt source to run my radar detector from! Did I mention that I received a bag of Jelly Bellys with the Lockpick!
