recommended oil for my 08 tahoe

I have the chilton service manual for my tahoe and the recommended oil for it is a 5W?... you would think thats for the winter and such but does anyone else run this year around in there tahoe?

If you use a quality full synthetic 5W then it won't hurt anything. These newer engines have extremely tight internal tolerances and most are rated to run a 5W. Regardless of the brand you use, make sure and stick with the weight recommended in the owners manual, but as for service intervals, make sure to stick to at or less than the recommendations from the oil manufacturer. Not all Synthetic oils are equal, a little research will tell you that without a doubt.
