I did post some diagnostic procedures in the troubleshooting section. Unfortunately for you the procedures apply to non-auto systems. I am sure that some parts of it would apply though.
Sealed or not, water has a way of finding it's way in when a vehicle has been setting in it for awhile.
Didn't see what year you have but on my '96 the TCCM is located on the driver's side of the steering column near the firewall. It is a metal box about 5" x 4" x 1". If you hear clicking under the dash when you press the 4WD button then follow that sound.
Mechanics I have talked to have said...
Pushing the parking brake in a few clicks or adjusting/jumping the switch on the parking brake so it is always engaged should disable the DRLs.
So now the DRLs are off but the light on the dash that says the parking brake is pressed is always on.
I was able to pull the fuse since I...
You can hear the encoder motor on the transfer case run when you select the different modes. You should also be able to hear the front differential actuator operate also.
Check the 4WD Diagnostics document in the Troubleshooting section that I posted.
A 2 pin actuator would be indicative of the thermal type. A motor type has 5 pins (4 are used).
You can check across the actuator for 12 volts when the key is on and the 4WD switch pressed. You can also remove the actuator and put 12 volts across it and see if it operates. If you remove...
With all the problems I see people having with 4 wheel drive, I decided to post a document on diagnosing the 4WD system in the Troubleshooting section. Hope it helps.
Seems a lot of people are having 4WD problems. Of course this is the kind of thing that goes out when you need it most.
I just posted a document in the Troubleshooting section about diagnosing 4WD problems that might help.
I think this year I will test it before winter.
I ran across this troubleshooting guide for 4 wheel drive from another source. I cleaned it up a bit and reformatted it some. It is in a Microsoft Word format
When the transfer case engages, you might feel a slight change since power is now being provided to the front differential but that doesn't mean it is making it to the ground. The front differential actuator and the engaging of the differential determines that (also assuming that the shaft to...
If it is the motor type you will hear a motor running. A thermal type will get warm and you should hear some mechanical movement.
I am not sure exactly what you mean
The clicking you hear inside is the TCCM (transfer case control module) mounted on the steering column. As I previously...
Not sure what the "default" mode is. I do know that the system can enter a fault mode (encoder reading problem) in which it will go only into 2WD or 4WD LO.
Try pressing and holding the 2WD button in while turning the key on.
If that doesn't work, either pull the transfer case fuse or disconnect the neg battery terminal and wait for 30 seconds or so.
