Although I have a 96 I think they are the same or similar.
I didn't use the bundle provided for the trailer, I tapped into the wires for the lights themselves. It was easier than pulling out the bundle wires and I am not sure that those wires are actually connected and may need to be...
Yes the USB is a 4 wire interface and it will take some circuitry to connect to the OBD. I guess it'll come down to what your time is worth to put one together versus buying one.
I use Autotap to monitor my engine and clear fault codes and it works well. I have a laptop on the console and I...
I have planned on putting a hydroboost on for some time but haven't gotten around to it yet. Too much other stuff to play with.
Hydroboost has been around for awhile and I understand that it became available on Tahoes in 2003.
I put on an AGR steering pump to handle my hydraulic winch and...
This can also be caused by the switch. I had to replace mine not long ago.
With the key on, toggle the the 4wd switch and listen for the transfer case motor to engage (you may have to have a friend do it while you lay on the ground). If the servo motor operates then it could be the...
IMHO a 3/8 impact wrench set on low (and lower air pressure if necessary) has less of a chance of stripping those bolts (threads and head) than applying a breaker bar. Also less of a chance of breaking the bolt itself if it is in there real bad.
The only way I could get the torx bolts out...
When I did the lift on my truck I wanted 3" but it seems to get a "true" suspension lift that doesn't change the ride quality, 4" was the minimum.
From what I could determine, the <4" lifts made use of torsion bar adjustments which would appear to affect ride quality.
Here is an example 3"...
I was not aware that a vacuum engage was used on 96s. Mine is an early build 96 and it had a thermal actuator until I did the TSB to put on an electric actuator.
I would pull the connector on the actuator and see if it disengages. If it doesn't, it may be bound up.
I have read some info that the dealers equipment can be used to change parameters on the EBCM. I have also seen several TSBs the mention reprogramming.
I have a Hypertech Programmer III that I reset recently for my '96 Tahoe.
The programmer was about $350 but I took the Tahoe in last week to put on the dyno and had the computer mapped. Cost $500.
I don't know if the programmer can be used on another vehicle after it is reset but it's...
Does the MC in the newer vehicles include the proportioning valve? The '96 Tahoe valve is part of the EBCM as far as I am aware. I guess what I am saying is if you are looking to increase rear bias, changing the MC won't do it.
Now if you were able to take the EBCM from an all disc vehicle...
That is the case but it still should be somewhat biased toward the front so the rear doesn't lockup during a heavy brake action before the front, due to weight transfer. During a towing and/or loaded situation a little more bias on the rear might work better.
I don't know if the programming...
I am planning to convert my rear drums to disc and have been researching it for some time. From what I have researched, I have seen that to get the most effect out of rear disc conversion the pressure bias should be changed. The rear drum setup provides more bias to the front than a full disc...
I have wanted a winch on mine for some time for being out in the woods in case I or those with me get in a jam (which we have managed to do). I finally installed a removable hydraulic winch but haven't had a chance to use it yet.
From my research, IMHO, if you are going to put a winch on...
I have a 4" Rancho kit on mine (which I am very happy with) and run 33" tires most of the year. If I had planned on using 35" I would have gone with the 6".
The 4" lift is great for me and provides the clearance I need. For the type of off-roading I do, I could have gotten away with 3" but 4" is the least "real" suspension lift you can do. You can get 3" by playing with the torsion bars etc but that changes the ride, which I didn't want to do.
I have a BBK 80mm on mine. Couldn't say how much good it does because I did several other mods at the same time. But it sure went on easy enough.
