ALL the PPV Tahoes are 2WD. The 4WD fleet-grade Tahoes are Special Service Vehicles (SSVs), not Police Pursuit Vehicles (PPV). As such, they lack the PPV's additional mechanical systems and pursuit rating. For probably 80% of the public, a 2WD PPV Tahoe with locking rear differential (not all...
I wound up going with the PPV (2WD) and I love it. Only complaint I have is that the ride is a little rough (to be expected, given the vehicle's intended use). Perhaps the SSV would ride a bit smoother?
Some PPV Tahoes are owned but individuals or are used by departments for non-duty or light-duty use (detectives, travel cars, Chief's car, etc.). These PPVs are significantly more desirable than those used for patrol duties.
You should also be able to do a 265/65 R17 or a 265/70 R17. Will just have a higher sidewall and larger overall circumference. Aftermarket programmers are available that will let you adjust the speedo calibration.
Personally, I think the trucks look too bare without something on the sides. Civilian Tahoes look weird without body side moldings. Police Tahoes look weird with them. I think it has to do with the fact that Police Tahoes have graphics on the doors. As long as something is there, I think it...
Looks like I'm going with the PPV (2WD). I like the wheels, lowered suspension, extra cooling systems, etc. It's going to have a locker so I don't think I'll have issues with it getting stuck. And I rarely pull a trailer so I don't think I'll need the extra payload capacity. Thanks for the...
Excellent information! One question though... In order for the dealership to flash program the necessary switches, does he have to actually connect to those switches or does he just plug into a master data port? I ask because if the switches themselves have to be accessed, I may leave the...
At least around here, individual officers can purchase police Tahoes as personally owned vehicles. Supposedly Chevrolet started allowing this in 2010. The price is right so that's probably what I'll do. :D
Yeah, I want to be able to tow small-medium trailers too. Though Chevrolet claims the PPV isn't meant for towing, there is nothing magical about it that would prevent it from doing so. My dealer said she thinks the 2013 PPVs can be ordered from Chevrolet with the receiver hitch and wiring. If...
I'm looking to buy my first Tahoe soon but am somewhat undecided between a 2013 PPV (2WD) or a 2013 SSV (4WD). What are y'all's thoughts on the pros and cons of each? The 4WD would cost about $3000 more. Thanks.
