This install was very easy! My two buddies helped me out with this and it took less than a hour. Looks and sounds great! Teamed with my Magnaflow muffler and custom bend exhaust from the cat back, it sounds good. Its almost like a deep whistle when i jump on it. The truck is so much more responsive and i love it. Will let you guys know what the improvement is on MPG when i get back from my "business" trip next month. Not a bad mod to do, i recommend it to all. it was only about $240 shipped to my door.

so it snowed like crazy here in washington last night and i went on a road test after the install so i needed to take it easy. but this morning i woke up and buckled in the family and took it out since the snow and ice melted. this thing really changed the responsiveness. my wife was like "damn, the throttle response is crazy." the "slurping" sound is only really noticable when i get on it pretty good. i am so happy with this purchase. CAI is a must buy for you guys that have exhaust systems or plan on getting on. Cant go wrong with increased MPG. and with this kit, you dont need to oil the filter like you have to with the K&N. a cleaning is required about every 20,000 miles which you need to buy a cleaning kit from AEM. not sure what the cost of these are yet.

In the pic it looks like you cut into the old housing and connected the AEM directly to the sensor then to the tube. if so does that make a difference? my sensor is thru the housing then the filter.

I'm very interested to hear how much it improved your mpg...? I have been thinking about purchasing the full kit myself, but more for mileage improvement than anything else.

Spend the money on a tune, intake doesn't do much for these trucks.

CUSTOM PCM TUNE:
Requires removal of your PCM (engine computer under hood next to your battery)
Typically costs $250-$400
Blackbear offers custom tuning when you give them a deposit for the cable required for datalogging
More power/torque
Full adjustability of all engine parameters
Requires some basic understanding of computer equipment and tuning
Will adjust for tire sizing/gears
Most tuners will tailor a tune depending on your vehicle
Most economical and cost-effective programming available

HANDHELD PROGRAMMERS:
Typically cost $360-$500
Easy to use (read:ryan)
Adjusts fuel/ignition tables to a certain extent
Will not remove rear o2 sensors if an off-road exhaust is installed
Will not remove torque management of transmission
Increases mileage and offers some adjustment of transmission
Increases rev limiter (to a degree)
Reads and removes diagnostic trouble codes (the reason your check engine light came on)

The handheld programmer I'm selling is a good alternative for anyone not wanting to deal with the removal/reinstallation of the pcm or lack the necessary skill to deal with datalogging or emailing the required tables to a tuner (company providing the custom programming). Hope this clears things up for you, for more info check out the frequently asked questions on justin's site:

Custom tunes are available from:
pcm4less
nelsonperformance
blackbear
wheatly
zippy
and the list goes on

That seems like a lot of $$$ for only a potential 1-2mpg increase...dont you think?

$250 for 20hp/tq, 2mpg, better transmission tuning, smoother power, increased longevity of motor, etc? Ask yourself how much mileage your kenwood gave you, or the billet grill? Whens the last time your 20s gave you more power? I'm dropping over $1k on headers for 25hp/40tq and I might get some mileage. Up to you dude but a good tune is one of the best things for these trucks.

Jet chip or anything that installs piggyback to the pcm is garbage, superchips/hypertech/or any other handheld is just as easy to install and won't backfeed your electrical system.

Performance gain is well worth the money but you won't get much (if any) gain in mileage.

I got quite a bit more than a 1-2mpg increase. With mostly freeway driving, I average 22-23mpg in my Suburban. I got slightly better last summer on a drive from the San Francisco bay area to Disneyland and back.

No why couldnt GM program that into these vehicles???
