04 tahoe 5.3l with CAI and blackbear tune. I put a 3 inch to 5 inch tip on it today. (there is a sound difference at idle and low rev it exagerates the idle more) But I am wanting to put a different muffler than stock on. Flowmasters kits are all 50 series...i was thinking a 50 suv but not sure how loud it will be. Previously had a 95 tahoe with headers no cats and single in dual out 44...sounded nice but too loud for me now. (i was young and i have since learned!) I am guessing the 5.3 will have a different sound than the old 5.7's did. By the way I love the flowmaster sound so there is no real chance of a different brand choice.
So question is, how loud will a 50 be vs. a 70? will 70 be like the stock muffler and therefore a waste of time? Or will it still give you that roar but quiet the interior more? My only worry is that i plan on doing LT headers and possibly removing cats(or hi flow ones) at some point and don't want to have to buy another muffler, plus I have to please my wife so I don't want to end up with the sound that the 40's and 44's make. So being that flowmasters kit is a 50 series has or does anyone run a 70 series?
Also is there any truth to mounting the muffler rotated 90 degrees from "normal" to help with interior resonance? I have heard this helps and had planned on doing so. I assumed the smaller width toward the floor doesn't give off as many sound waves?
Your experience with these mufflers would be greatly appreciated. I plan on keeping it a single exit to keep my cost down. (sad to say i love the look of duals but price wise it isn't worth it...at least not yet)
