I have a Viper 160XV installed on my 05 Tahoe. I just had some HIDs installed in the low beam this week. The problem is, when the vehicle is started by the remote starter and I lock/unlock the Tahoe, it would flash the headlights a few times, which is not desirable for the HIDs.

I was wondering for those of you with remote starters, does it flash your low beams also? I suspect that the installer had connected the remote starter to the low beams instead of the parking lights or to both and that's causing the low beams to flash. And the reason I suspect that is because if I just lock/unlock the truck when it's not started, the low beams do not flash. Also, I've tried to change the settings in the steering wheel control but nothing seems to stop the headlights from being flashed (Specifically, I changed the lock/unlock feedback and perimeter light settings).

If you have a remote starter installed and you know for fact that the unit is connected only to the parking lights, please let me know if your low beams flash as well when you lock/unlock the vehicle while started by the remote starter. Or if you have any idea on how to avoid the low beams from being flashed, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

When the remote starter is activated it puts power to several different systems. This is what allows your heater blower motor to run and several other things to work with the key off.

My guess would be that the ignition 1 or ignition 2 wire may not be hooked up correctly and is powering up a circuit associated with the headlights. There may also be a problem with power back feeding the headlight circuit where one of the ignition wires may need to be diode isolated to prevent the lock signal from triggering the headlights.
Really hard to say without looking at it…. But I’m sure the situation can be corrected, your installer should be able to cure it.

** EXTRA INFORMATION NOTE *1 This vehicle will Requires a Anti-Theft Bypass Module Part GMDL-BP to connect the Door Locks and Bypass the PASSLOCK 2 System. If not connecting up the Door locks use the GMBP Bypass module. NOTE *2 The BCM (Body Control Module) is located behind the drivers side of the dash, with the plugs facing the rear of the vehicle. NOTE *3 This vehicle use (2) door pin triggers, the DRIVERS DOOR is a GRAY/BLACK (-) at the DRIVERS DOOR module in the DRIVERS DOOR. The PASSENGER DOOR is a BLACK/WHITE (-) at the PASSENGERS DOOR module in the PASSENGERS DOOR. The DRIVERS REAR DOOR is a LIGHT BLUE/BLACK (-) Pin A3 and the PASSENGERS REAR DOOR is a LIGHT GREEN/BLACK (-) Pin A2, both are located at the BCM, PURPLE plug. When connecting to an ALARM SYSTEM use all 4 wires and DIODE ISOLATE, See DIAGRAM NOTE *4 The PCM (Power Control Module) is located in the LEFT front of the engine compartment to the LEFT of the fan shroud. The TACH wire is in a GREEN Plug Pin 10. NOTE *5 IMPORTANT !!!!! this wire MUST BE CONNECTED as IGNITION #2 for REMOTE STARTING!!!!!!

if the installer did connect the parking lights wires to the headlights this could be easily fixed by taking down the knee buster under the steering wheel to access the bcm. there are many wires down there but you could just take the white wire from the remote start and connect it to the parking light wire at the bcm which i think is brown but you might want to get a diagram to find its exact location on the bcm

Make them wire the indicator lights correctly through your parking lights and not the headlights, my truck is fine after a year of owning my 50.5x.

Thanks for the suggestion guys. I was only speculating if the wire's hooked up incorrectly and wanted to see what y'all think.

I wonder why the auto headlight screws it up, argh. This is frustrating. So putting it on highs disables the flashing??? I did the 6 high mod, would that interfere with it? Thanks.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

Just for the record, I'm posting this for people who want to disable this during lock/unlock while vehicle's started. Thanks!!!

From OmarR at Z71 Forum:

Your installer should take the blue status output of the Viper alarm and wire it to a relay.

The relay should interrupt the pink/white wire at the BCM C4 (Gray Connector), location A4.

This will interrupt power to the headlamps only during remote start and no other time.
