I admit that since I am employed by Goodyear I am a bit biased. But the rule of thumb I have learned is you get what you pay for.

One of the only "off-brand" tires that are lower in the price range that I have seen people having success with is Nitto, the Terra Grappler line in particular.

hankook's are not an off brand. i sell these tires as our main line. they are however partialy(sp) owned by michelin. the rt03 or mt's as you call them are our best selling off road tire. i've seen them aired down to 16 lbs for rock crawling and haul any load you throw at them. however i wouldnt run them if you had no intentions of using them for off road, they are loud. the next tire hankook offers down from them is the rf10, thats what i will be running on the yukon this week to replace the rts's that i can't stand. i have the one down from those on my durango, the rf04 in a 31. love that tire and are wearing nice. i have 32k on them and there is lots of rubber left. keep em inflated right and rotated at the 1st sign of wearing and any tire will last you, just my 2 cents

A buddy is running them on his 2500HD and he's happy with them. I rode in the truck last week and they didn't seem all that loud to me. His are 285/16's.

I wasnt trying to offend anybody with my post. Just to show you what I meant -- Im assuming you are looking at the same size tires you have been using 992door:

285/75-16 (2nd prices are for higher load range)

BFG Mud Terrain -- $214.00 / $261.00
Dick Cepek Mud Country -- $218.99 +
Goodyear Wrangler MTR -- $225.00 / 247.00
M/T Baja MTZ -- $224.99 +
Pro Comp Radial Mud -- $202.99 +
Toyo Open Country Mud -- $290.99 +
Super Swamper Radial SSR -- $212.99 +

Nitto Terra Grappler -- $178.00 / $202.00
Hankook RT03 -- $213.00

This is a sample of tires that are, in my opinion, the main stream off road tires; and by my estimates, the Nitto Terra Grappler is the cheapest in the bunch.

Call me crazy, oh wait, someone already did; but I dont see Hankook as a mainstream brand. Michelin, Goodyear, & Firestone are to me the mainstream brands in auto tires.

If you want a really good MT tire, and dont mind paying for it, I would go with Mickey Thompson, Dick Cepek, or the new Goodyear about to hit the markets, Wrangler MT with Kevlar plies.

I thought about getting some new wheels and tires that is why i was looking for new tires. But now i have decided that the money aspect of it is not just right for me to buy them so I am going to be keeping the wheels and tires that i have right now. Once i need some new tires i will probably end up going with the Mickey Thompsons or the BFG. But I kinda like the look of the new goodyear wrangler mt.
