I have a 99 Tahoe with 75k mile on it, truck is in near mint condition and I want to improve the stance of the truck. It currently wears 245's and I want to go as wide as I can while using stock rims and not spending much.

So that said what can I do to give this rig some shoulders? I have no interest in a big lift as this is a daily driver but I would consider a small lift or leveling kit.

If any of you have done this please post some pics, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a pic of the truck now

Thanks

i would not go any bigger than 265's on stock rims any bigger and the tires might not seat on the bead. i've seen it happen when some of the other tire techs i work with had done it for a customer.

let me give an example of what the tire size numbers mean:
265/75/16

265 is the width of the tire from widest point to widest point
75 is the height of the tire.
16 is the diameter of the rim the tire will fit.

I had 31 x 10.5 x 15s on my 98 tahoe stock rims (metric). They're slightly too tall/wide. when new the tires would rub in sharp max turns or deep unnoticed crevices in the road. Now that the tires have 50k miles on them and wore down a little the rub is gone. Not sure what the equivalent in standard sizing is for 31x10.5. I wouldn't go bigger than 31s.

I upgraded and put aftermarket rims on it that are wider 15s. went from 8 inch wide stock to 10 inch wide. that also seemed to help because the tire is now flatter across.

235/75/15's are the standard size that are a direct replacement for the 31x10.50's.

No math wiz here but 235mm is 9.25" not 10.5". That 31x10.5 is 1.25" wider. Right? Also the second number is the aspect ratio 235/75-16 is 235mm wide and the sidewall height is 75% of width and of course the 16 is the size of the rim in inches.
So 75% of 235 is 176.25mm (6.94) x2 + 16=29.877. I think even a 30 x 9.50 is taller and wider than a 235/70-16. Am I on the right planet here or do I need to be beamed up. lol....Al

Every OBS I have ever seen at one point or another has had a set of 285/75/16s on it. I have heard of no adverse affects other than maybe a minor scrub when turning at lock. My torsion bars are turned as to level out the front, and my last set of tires were 305/70/16s and I had no problem. If I am correct, the 4WD came with 265/75/16 stock. If you look at tire manufacturers info, most give a min and max rim width. As long as you are in those limits, I don't see what the problem would be.
