 I jjust went on line to NADA and looked up the retail value of our 07 LTZ and it is more than we paid for it new 10 months ago. You talk about a vehicle that retains it value then you are talking Chevy. Tahoe.

Good, sounds like they're doing better than when I bought my '04. It seems like I bought mine either right before or after they did all the employee discounts and it just killed me resale value. You could buy a new one cheaper than a used one- nobody wanted a used one. Mine dropped like lead, but it's good to see that the new ones are doing better  .

Except, in most cases, anymore you just will not get those book values. Particularly not on full-size SUV's such as these. They retain value well enough, but have really taken hits lately being big and relatively thirsty.

NADA tends to be the most inflated of all, followed by a somewhat more realistic KBB (but not much), and then Edmunds.

4 years ago, we got the Edmunds value exactly for our perfect '02 Avalanche, trading it in on the '04 Suburban. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, trading the Suburban (as flawless as the Avalanche before it) in on a new Malibu, and the absolute best we could get was $4000 under Edmunds, which was the lowest to begin with. Knew to expect it after having two others offer similar amounts back in November, in other states, and also having a friend pull up recent auction prices for me--pretty much dead on.

Not to say a newer '07/08 wouldn't fair better...but not by much. They're not setting sales records as new anymore, and people aren't as gangbusters over buying a big ute unless they get a great deal.

Moreso, factor in the deals and rebates anyone could walk in and get on a new '08 right now, and you know to assume that your used value for the same vehicle is automatically a few grand less than that at least.

Way more margin on the Suburban vs. the Malibu to allow for more trade $............
