I just called our local pick a part which I am about 1 hour away from to see if they had any '05 - '06 tahoes in their yard....simply question. "well sir we cannot tell you if we have a certain part or not since we go through 300 vehicles a week." I didn't ask about a certain part...I asked about a vehicle. That is so frustrating.

/End rant

He can't get parts for his truck because he doesn't understand the redneck philosophy of junkyards, gotta bring your own tools and offer them nothing for the parts.

I understand the philosophy of junkyards, but junkyards are required to keep an inventory of the vehicles they have in their yards. The operator on the phone couldn't comprehend I was asking about a certain make and model of vehicle...just told me I had to drive out there to see if they had any.

And around here anyway, a lot of the junk yards you cannot bring your own tools and go pull your parts. You have to show them the part, they pull it and you end up paying for their time...less liability on the owner.

Yes it does, but I am looking for a specific year, make and model. I also live an hour away and gas is not getting any cheaper.

Nothing big. Just trying to find a pewter '05-'06 LT tahoe that still has the door handles and mirrors. I checked ebay but only found the chrome handles. Wouldn't mind scavengering for a center counsole either.

You can find exactly what you're looking for, and it even searches other years/models that are compatible. Every time I have called a place to verify they actually have it they have been helpful. I think these are the salvage places that insurance companies deal with so they have a lot better inventory management than Pick-and-Pull type places - though you end up paying a bit more for the service. For a late-model car that's your best bet though - I never see anything that new at U-wrench-it type junkyards.
