When you negotiate a price with a dealer and then special order the vehicle, what kind of document does the dealer normally give you that specifies and guarantees the selling price? Without something like this, could they raise the price on delivery, if they think they can squeeze more out of the car?

You probably received a buyers order which would lock in your price, excluding rebates. The only variable would be rebates that are in place when your truck arrives at the dealership. The price you negotiated should be on paper, and when the dealer places the order, it protects you from price increases. If you have the paperwork, your good to go!

Yeah these guys are telling me that because I ate into their holdback margin so much that I will be liable for any factory increase, which is understandable to me. But all they gave me is the order summarry and he wrote the price on it and signed it. Told me that they want me to be happy so don't worry. I'm going there to give the deposit today, so maybe I should draw up a mini contract detailing the terms...

When I ordered my truck in 2000 the destination charge went up and I had to pay the difference.

I ordered my 08 Tahoe in the beginning of Feb and they gave me a print out of options std features etc and price summary.

Well, all I can tell you is...the way we do business, is we write up a buyers order with the deal (numbers), we sign it, the buyer signs it, and sometimes we even take a deposit. This locks the factory, buyer, and dealer into the current prices quoted excluding rebates, which change almost monthly. It is explained that rebates apply at time of delivery, not order time.
This buyers order is a contract, and if you can get your dealer to write one up, you, and he sign it, your locked in. A deposit might be helpful if any question comes up later....even $100.00. Good luck. I never heard of a dealer actually going into holdback to sell a truck, unless it is very old stock. They must be desperate.
