And where would I be able to find the details of this swap? Parts needed, exact modifications and all that.
It would be a good thing to have a friendly relationship with a local transmission shop.
I got to know my tranny guy real well, while trying to make the 4L60e stand up to big power. He enjoys the high performance details just becuase it is more fun than just repairing broken tranny's.
Anyway, on the 95, the cross member just slides back to the next set of holes in the frame. It uses the same mount as the 60. The trans is larger in both directions, length and width. I had a clutch and u-joint shop near by that shortened the rear drive shaft and changed the input u-joint to match the new diameter output shaft. They just had to make a new front shaft. They can't lengthen them as easy as they can just make a new one.
I dropped the transfer case off at the transmission shop to have the larger shaft installed. That is very easy for them. Then you need to lengthen the floor shift rod if it is the manual type.
The dip stick tube and stick need to be changed. I just bought a new one from GM. Other than that, I just bolted in the parts that my tranny guy handed me. I assume the flex plate was changed. The starter is the same
I already had the TCU controlling the 4L60e, so it was just making one different connection and setting the program for 80 instead of 60. I also had to adjust the shift points because of the very different ratios of the gears.
There was nothing that was difficult and it all went smoothly. The front drive shaft comes real close to the tranny, but clears just fine.
It is my next favorite mod to the truck after the hair driers.
