I might have it backwards, but I think the first design was one indicator light, and was actually much easier to program, especially for rolling code garage door openers. And for a regular remote I think you just held it to it and pressed to lock in the code. The one I have (newer), 3 lights I think, and then I had to actually input the sequence of on/off switches to program it. And from the owners manual it looked like it was a bitch for rolling codes too. But you should just look at what is written about the two in the manual to see what it has to say about programming them. Even so, being more difficult or whatever I feel like I'd rather have whatever is more modern, if that makes sense, but I'm sure it was just an issue of GM changing suppliers. But if nothing else maybe the company under current contract will continue to provide GM with higher quality/quantity replacement parts than the former one, should anything ever happen???
