Want turn over

Ok here it is, 99 Chevy Tahoe I went to leave work I turned the switch and didn't nothing happen but click-click-click I waited and tried again it started up.... Ok gets home cuts the truck off goes to re crank it same thing click-click-click so I assume it was the starter ok I tapped on that and nothing same click, I takes the starter off takes it to advance auto and it tests good, puts it back on truck same thing, I charged the battery it's a 100% it's only a month old, tried testing the small wire at the starter it's getting 12v when I turn the key, i turned the motor over by hand to eliminate motor locked up sooooooooo what else can be wrong I'm over here pulling my hair out

Make sure the negative battery cable at the engine block is nice and tight if that's ok perform a voltage drop on positive and negative battery cables.. put one lead of the volt metter on the negative side of the battery and the orher on the engine block where the negative cable is bolted to crank the engine and there should no more then a half a volt 0.5v do the same on the positive side should be the same 0.5v if either read higher than that you may have bad cables make sure you have a good connection if not you won't get an accurate reading... also when you test the signal ciruit you may want to. Load the circuit just because it's reading 12v it may not be getting the amperage so the best way to load the circuit is to use a 12v test light or any type of a 12v bulb like a head lamp bulb and rig it up so you can run leads to a good ground and the other to the signal circuit at the starter qhen you crank the engine you should get a nice bright light.. hope you can find something with that

Ok I checked both neg/pos battery cables on every end everything is clean and tight, and I bought a brand new test light grounded it and touch the small(purple)on the starter and tried to crank the truck and the test light was bright, now far doing the voltage drop I put the volt meter on every setting and no where did I get 0.5v the numbers will start high and count down to 0.00

Forgot to state that when you do the positive side put one lead of the positive post of the battery and the other on the starter not the sigal circuit but the big positive battery cable.. then crank the like mentioned in the previous post do the negative side it should have no more than 0.5v if its higher like you said and then goes down to 0.0 well the cables are bad

What setting do I need to be on, on the volt meter

1.5 volt if while cranking it shows more then 0.5v or O.L then you have bad cables

I'm getting 0.03-0.01 from battery to battery terminal on the starter

What about the negative side if its the same reading as the positive side 0.5v or below the thing left is the starter I would have them test it somewhere else

Ok after checking everything truck still only clicking when I turn the key, so my last test is to check the two wires on the starter while someone turn the key so with the volt meter I checks the battery wire on the starter turns the key starter clicking and I'm getting 12.5 volts so I move to the lil wire coming from the ignition switch, grounds one of the prongs from meter and with the other touches the small wire On the starter then yall to turn the key and WHAM....... The truck starts and scares me to death, now it's cranking every turn of the key........My question now is what was wrong and will it happen again

Dosnt make sense when you did it with the test light on the signal wire"little purple wire" you said it lit up nice and bright.. right ? If so im still saying its the starter if thats the case and providing the voltage drop test where done correctly. .

Yes I did all the tests jus let you said, I'm thinking starter to I had 2 advance autos check it for a total of 4 times and all test was good

Big red wire at starter should light light (grounded to engine), purple should only light light when cranking, engine ground to battery ground should be no light when cranking.

Yes that is correct on all three. . I think I'm missing something here... cuz I thought we covered this already well except for test light goes out grouned positive and light to the ground side when crank goes out
