I've got an '08 LTZ and hate the cheap looking faux wood dash and door trim. Would love to swap out with the Z71 aluminum. Does anyone know if this is something that can be ordered through GM? The local dealership isn't too helpful.

You should be able to get it through your dealer, all you need is the inserts for the Z71.
I am thinking of doing that to my LTZ as well.

Swapped out ALL of the wood pieces in the vehicle using OEM parts purchased from dealer. Took gmpartsdirect pricing to the parts guy at the dealer and received same pricing. Total price was around $400.

When removing the wood pieces, make sure to take your time and be gentle so you won't break any of the clips.

Did you have to pull the airbag pad to install the steering wheel pieces?

These directions got me through it (posted by ZX1100F1)

FIRST: Disconnect the negative battery cable
On the back side of the steering wheel, there are 2 access holes which directs the tool to the release retainer. The middle holes are for the module removal. Using a 3-4 mm wire or 4 mm allen type wrench, push the retainer inward and slightly upward through the access hole. Repeat the step for the other access hole.

You will have to turn the steering wheel to gain access to each hole.

Parts 3 and 4 are trim pieces, part 9 is the airbag.
